Types of Investigations
Relationship Issues Discovery works with family law attorneys as well as individuals and their family members.
- Infidelity of a partner or spouse: If you believe your partner is cheating you may be correct. Trust your instincts, but do not accuse them. Have us place them under surveillance and discretely check them out. If we find they are cheating you will have the proof to make an informed decision based on facts. If they are not cheating you have not put a strain on your relationship by accusations. Also, it is much more difficult and expensive to check someone out once they are alerted that you suspect them.
- Dating check: Going on a date with someone you do not know, or was not introduced to you by trusted friends? We do a discrete mini background check on them to make sure their name, age and address match and check that they do not have a criminal record. Today more people meet on the internet or a dating service that gives you a profile but not a background check. You really do not know them, only what they have told you. This is a simple precaution to give you and your loved ones peace of mind. Date rape and date fraud are not that uncommon.
- Pre-Marital background: If you have been in a relationship and are thinking about taking it to the next step of living with your partner, getting married, or loaning them money for a crises; check them out so that you do not have any surprises a year or two later. We discretely check all aspects of a person’s background answering questions like, are they really divorced? Do they really have the assets they claim? Were they abusive in past relationships? Do they have a criminal past? Are they who they say they are? Do they have a drinking or drug problem? Do they owe money to tax liens or judgments? If you are wondering about any of these you need to have them checked out.
Divorce & Support Discovery works with family law attorneys as well as individuals and their family members.
- I am getting divorced: If you are contemplating getting a divorce start making copies of all bank statements, credit bureaus, insurance policies, investment portfolios, vehicles owned, properties, address books... because once you file for divorce you may lose access to these items making it extremely expensive and difficult to prove in court if your partner hides or sells the assets. We do a net worth asset investigation to show what the joint and individual assets were when you filed for divorce giving you the proof needed to get a fair settlement.
- Where did the assets go? After filing for divorce or separating your partner now claims there are no assets left, or not as much as you know you both had. It is up to you in a court of law to prove there were assets and to locate them. We do a comprehensive investigation to locate hidden banking accounts, transferred properties, investment accounts, or to prove they are working.
- Child Custody: For cases where one parent believes the other parent should not have joint custody due to bad behaviors that would affect the safety of the child when in their sole care. We determine the best way to find and get the evidence needed to help you and your attorney win custody in a court of law. This can be a difficult investigation as most bad behaviors such as; physical abuse, verbal abuse, drugs, alcohol, seeing prostitutes, leaving the child unattended or with questionable third parties is often done discretely and not in public.
- Not paying support: We investigate to find out if and where they are working so you can have their wages garnished by the state. If we find they are self-employed or working under the table we document this so you can take the evidence to the court to show they are working. This also applies when they have lied to the court and claimed they are unemployed.
- Modification of support: If you were court ordered to pay your spouse monthly maintenance and you believe they may be co-habiting. We conduct an investigation to find out if they are comingling assets or living together in a relationship. We document this so your attorney can petition the court for a modification of support.
- Parental abduction In cases where one parent steals a child or children and takes them to an unknown location we conduct an investigation to locate them and help facilitate their return. We work in cases where charges have been brought against them interfacing with law enforcement and in cases where no charges have been made. We can only help if our client has custody rights to the child.
Wills, Trusts, & Probate Discovery works with prestigious trust and wills departments of leading institutions as well as individuals and their family members. Often as time goes by and wills are not updated it can be quite a puzzle to locate the decedents heirs, accounts, and policies.
- Locate missing heirs: Often when a persons will has not been updated for years, their heirs they thought would outlive them die prior to them or the contact information for those heirs is no longer good. Using databases, archived data, and sources, we locate the named heirs or find their closest living relatives so the estate can be disbursed according to the decedents wishes.
- Investigate contested wills: Investigation into the charges regarding a contested will. We diligently gather evidence for our client conducting a full investigation to prove elements such as mental state, duress, trustee fraud... Any person who has "standing," i.e. a legal interest in an estate of the person whose will is in question can contest the will. Generally spouses, children, grandchildren and other family members and heirs may have "standing" to challenge a will.
- Locate hidden assets or net worth: Investigation to locate missing assets such as insurance policies, investments, banking relations, and properties.
- Examine questioned documents: Our experts determine if signatures or other written text on documents presented match a known person or suspect. We additionally check to see if the documents used were originals or were copied and then forged. If needed we can also determine the age of a document, materials used, and in some instances gather DNA from the document. Handwriting analysis can give incite as to the state of mind of the author or add evidence of forgery.
- Investigate competency: Determine if a person was of sound mind or not coerced to make changes to their will.
